This 1979 Yamaha RD400 was acquired in 2019 by the seller who subsequently commissioned a three-year custom street-tracker-style build by Gaston Motorcycle Werks of Gastonia, North Carolina. The 398cc two-stroke parallel-twin was rebuilt, the frame was powder-coated blue, and the custom bodywork was painted silver with white accent panels. Highlights of the build include a Robinson four-leading-shoe front brake, a custom swingarm with a YSS monoshock, a Ceriani fork, Lectron carburetors, an expansion-chamber exhaust system, Motogadget accessories, a custom oil tank, a suede-upholstered solo seat, rear-set foot controls, and 18″ Borrani alloy rims
The Airtech solo seat was upholstered in a diamond-stitch pattern using weather-resistant suede, and the side stand and engine brackets were also powder-coated. The bike is further equipped with LED lights, rear-set foot controls, and a carbon-fiber front fender.
Borrani 18″ alloy rims are laced to a Robinson 230mm four-leading-shoe drum-brake hub up front and a Yamaha drum-brake hub out back and were mounted with 3.25″ front and 4.00″ rear Heidenau tires.
