Broke a couple a few years ago in dad's boat motor. Had access to a SEM (?) and they were full of metal shavings. Bad castings.

Ash;
If you don't already have rods, I'd recommend MGPs. They're what I used in my most recent motor.

I'm using the BBC6500 series with a 1.094 pin.

Well, I just took new set of Groden's in on trade, I have used grp & mgp in the past. No problems with either one for drag strip applications. I use the oliver rod for street applications.
Just curiouis, They look like a nice set and the owner says he backs them up strip or street.... Yeah you heard me.......Street or Strip
The only thing I can say about using aluminum rods for daily drivers is a 1932 Boat Tail Bear Cat Stutz utilized aluminum rods. Not many of those cars made, but the one I know of is still running strong on its original build.

groden, himself
I thought his claim was a little facious, myself.
Check out his web site

Here is an excerpt from his web page
Our patented rod-to-cap design makes our rods the strongest in the world. In fact, our rods are over 30 % stronger than any rod on the market! Composed of space age billet aluminum, our rods are road tested to stand up to tomorrow’s heat and pressure engine performance standards.
At Groden Racing Rods we have eliminated rod failure with space age strength aluminum that allows no temperature growth. Throughout our rigorous engineering, testing and re-testing phases, our rods have unsurpassed quality control and craftsmanship, and are guaranteed not to have any forging flaws or cause distortion to the bores.

BME claims you can run their rods on the street too.

Urban legends abound in the gearhead community. One is: aluminum connecting rods don't work in street engines. Prior to the mid-'70s, that might have been true, however, introduction of the Bill Miller Engineering Forged Aluminum Connecting Rod in 1975 provided an exception to that myth.
The BME Rod has good durability in high-end, high-power, street/strip or hot street engines because it is die-forged, rather than cut out of an aluminum plate. Bill Miller Engineering's unique, high-strength, aluminum alloy further enhances fatigue strength such that the potential durability of BME Rod rivals that of many forged steel rods and exceeds that of a few.
I sure as heck wouldn't try it.Originally Posted by BME

I've had groden aluminum rods in my street car 67 mustang w/ 408cid for over 10 years and 10k miles.
Pulled the pan last night to replace the bearings, we figure it's cheap insurance. Everything looks great. I stand by these connecting rods. Just about everyone said it couldn't be done on the street. I use Royal Purple 50w with a Lucas zinc additive..
This is what works for me..
