After 2 kids Im back to building my 388 sbc engine !!! Its a 010 block bored 60 over with an Eagles rotating assembly. I'm thinking about running a 64 cc head which should give me around a 10.9 to 1 compression ratio. I'm on a budget obviously with 2 kids. I was looking at the patriot performnce but no one has anything GOOD to say about them Im looking to spend no more than $1500 on heads. Plus I will need a cam with a intake and carb. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. It will be a street truck for the weekends. I want to get 400 - 500 hp if possible .

I have the afr 210 cnc heads on my 385
they work damn good, If you want the most bang for your buck its a good way to go, maybee a 195 head for a street motor with your compression would work good

On a .060 over 350 block make sure its sonic tested for cylinder wall thickness as we sonic test every OEM block that comes through the door and we don't see many the make a good performance build at .060.

On cylinder heads take a look at these and we are a dealer for Dart if you choose them.

Best bang for the Buck is AFR,
If your going with a hydraulic flat tappet or mild hydraulic roller cam use the 195cc heads
The heads come CNC ported, by far the best head on the market for the money right now.

The profiler will save the money that can be used somewhere else ( cam intake etc) But I want something reliable. Im not build a race motor just a weekend warrior. lol I also would like help with cam and stall selection. I'm looking to get in the ball park of 450 - 500 hp. Thanks

The profilers will be head and shoulders above the patriots that you asked about in your first post so I don't get the reliable part in comparison. Not trying to be a smart butt about it. Patriot I believe are an import, profiler- made in USA.

Reliable as in maintanece wise. I also saw where a guy locally is sell a set of brodix ik 200 for the same price as a set of pro filers. Would these be a better choice over the pro filers ?

If you can get a good deal on the Brodix heads I would use them in a heartbeat. If they are used check the valve springs and valve job though. Either head would be fine given the right intake port size. Don't want to get carried away on the street.

This isn't what you want to hear but if you don't already have the sbc parts and if that's all the power you are after a very mild big block with factory heads will get you that and be dependable and maintenance free...(relatively)

No big block I have the bottom end already just looking for help with top end stuff. I have a set of camel hump 202 but don't think It will give me what I want out of them. I really don't want to spend $1500 on some heads I was looking more in the ball park of $1000-$1200. But I guess I need to just break down and spend the money. Just thinking that the $200-$400 could be used on some more engine parts like cam intake carb.

Good cylinder heads are what make the power. If your never going to dyno the engine, then buy what is in your price range. I'm assuming your using one of eagle's budget performance kits with speed pro pistons ?

IT actually has kb pistons. I was looking at some pro filers. Most info I found is looking good. Plus they are in my budget. (around $1100) They are 210 cc. No I will probably never dyno the engine. I just dont want to waste my hard earned $$ on something Im not going to be happy with

i have a 388 sbc with ik200 brodix heads and solid roller cam and 13.1 comp and it made 600 hp at the flywheel.hopes this helps

crower custom built for my motor 4/7,2/3 swap cam, big roller
super victor intake, pro system 4150 carb
Its over 600, and it runs :D

I've heard a few other guys talk about a 2/3 swap on big blocks. I run a 4/7 swap which has been around for a long time, but wondering about a 4/7 2/3 swap cam when I freshen it up.

In a traditional 184346572, you have three same crank BTB pin fireing
(4-3, 6-5, 2-1)

In a 4/7 swap 18736542 you only have two (8-7, 6-5)

In a double 7/4 - 2/3 you go back to three same pin BTB fireing.

Are the double swaps proven to be any better?

I think the LS motor have the double swap, it improves cooling and the harmonics are less. If i recall Warren Johnson was messing the swaps to improve the cooling on his prostock vehicles, there's supposed to be some HP advantage due to the cooler running of the cylinders and for sure the less harmonics will help the engine last longer. I've never ran a 4/7 swap cam but i do have one in my 434" motor that's going in my Malibu.

My cam is custom ground for my motor, and it runs damn nice!!!!!!

here are some specs. comp cam part #12-773-8 it is the xr292r cam with spilt duration intake 292 ex 297 intake lift 582 ex 588 and its on 107 center lobe iam running 1.6 rockers,ik200 heads with 200cc runners out of the box,victor jr intake port match to heads,eagle 4340 rotating assy with 6inch h-beam rods,13.1 je pistons,850 quick fuel carb,its in a 79 malibu w/driver 3200 and manily a 7.0 heads up car,best its been on motor is 6.88 1/8 mile

Brodix IK200, about the best bang for your buck. I'm in the same situation as you with kids budget and all,I got those heads on my 383 with KB pistons and from my time slips the hp with a small cam is right there where you want to be.

How bout 6 kids on a tight budget.

388 eagle assembly with 5.7 rods and KB134 flat tops

Leave on the converter (5800) and it will ride the bumper for 300+ft

Go with what you have. You can find a good set of aluminum heads for around 900 used. Then you have 600 to spend on that intake and carb. Buy a Holley Blue and have fun.

I found a set of RHS alumiun heads for sale used The guy only want $800 but i havent been able to cross reference any of the numbers on the heads. He says they have 2.02 valves but he didnt know the runner sizes. Plus I think they have had some work done to them. He says "they flow like crazy " but he can't produce any numbers or any info about them. Are RHs heads any good or will can I expect the results I'm looking for from these heads ?

Have you tried calling RHS to check the #'s ? they might be a good and they might not. The smaller runner heads don't flow much according to their own flow charts, how ever the 235 runners flow up to 315 CFM. A good running 383 will need 300 CFM or more to perform at it's best. i've heard those words before they flow like crazy, but unless you can get some actual flow #'s i'd be careful of the purchase.
