If you're a truck fan, you literally have thousands of choices. You can choose something like everyone else, or you can go a little off the beaten path with this bright blue 1965 Ford F-100. This is one of those trucks that gets everything right, from the burly small block V8 under the hood, to the shiny paint to the comfortable cabin inside. Priced right and looking clean, this Ford truck is ready to turn some heads.
First of all, this final-year 4th generation F-Series truck really looks great. The regular cab/short bed combination was rather popular back in the day, and it remains the one to own if you're looking for a fun truck that can double as a work truck. Ford took a conservative path with their F-100, but between the shiny Light Blue Metallic paint on the body, the white paint on the roof of the cab, and some well-chosen brightwork, it has a very detailed look. The driver-quality paint was refinished several years ago and still looks pretty good, certainly not perfect, but nice enough to get appreciative second glances on the road and to show proudly on weekends. The color-matched grille dresses things up out front, as does the chrome bumper just below, while any trim or badging was deleted from the profile to let all that blue finish do the talking. We love that decision because the unique sheetmetal design of the '65 really shows when there's no extra bling in the way, with sculpted front fenders, swooping body lines, and straight bed out back all working together to make for an incredibly interesting truck. They did leave the chrome hood ornament on up front, along with the bright mirrors and door handles at the flanks that add extra contrast against the blue paint. Out back the rear bumper was swapped in favor of a smoothed roll pan with louvered accents, and that custom look plays perfectly with the flashy alloy wheels. Inside the bed could use a little extra work, but a quick trip to the Line-X shop will keep it looking good and protected forever.
The restored interior features a combination of new and old components to form an extremely comfortable cabin in which to spend some time. That unique black vinyl seat cover takes up most of the attention, and it really stands out against the simple steel door panels and dashboard, while plush black carpets line the floors and insulate the truck from the outside world. A simple instrument panel includes a big factory gauge in the center and auxiliary units at the flanks – a look familiar to anyone who has driven an early '60s Ford – and they work together to provide a complete view of the engine. An upgraded billet steering wheel features a black leather rim that matches the seat, and it gives you plenty of leverage on the tires and looks great. It's joined by a column shifter managing the 3-speed automatic transmission below. A Sony AM/FM/CD head unit was installed in the dash, although it's due for an upgrade if you want tunes, and newer seatbelts were also installed to add a modicum of safety for the driver and passenger alike.
With a 350 cubic inch V8 under the hood of this relatively lightweight pickup, performance is lively. Whether it's blasting from red light to red light or hitting the road for a cross-country trip, this powertrain in this truck delivers. Dress-up includes finned M/T valve covers and a blacked-out air cleaner, and a mostly OEM look means that you can treat this truck as more than just a workhorse. Stock headers feed into a Flowmaster dual exhaust system that sounds suitably muscular for the look and terminates just under the rear roll pan. Power steering and front disc brakes ensure a great ride every time, and the undercarriage is very solid. Slick American Racing Torque Thrust wheels lend the truck a sporty demeanor and are fitted with beefy 225/50/18 front and 255/40/15 rear performance radials that fill the wheel wells perfectly.
Not like all the others, this F-100 is a really nice truck that'll surprise more than a few performance car owners and is still happy to put in a hard day's work. Call today.
