The Plymouth Prowler was all about celebrating the style of our American automotive history, and 1999 was the year of the power upgrade. So there's no better way to represent this full theme than with an aggressive red-blooded low-mileage machine.
This Prowler has been treated with proper respect. After all, an odometer with only 8300 miles in nearly a quarter-century lets you know this was not about the daily grind. In fact, this one is coming out of a collection. So its signs of use are minimal, and instead, you can really appreciate the sleek lines that made the Prowler look like Plymouth let a concept car out onto the streets. And we especially like it in Prowler Red. This was the first year that the Prowler was offered in anything other than purple, and red was only offered for two years (only about 1600 were ever done in this color.) So it's a bold and rare declaration of a powerful Plymouth. The red is so distinct that this one even has color-matched inner wheel wells for a custom touch that adds subtle distinction without straying too far from stock. After all, this car already looked like a true custom. It's hard to imagine anything but Chrysler's special hand-crafting factory making something with cycle fenders, sharply pointed front end, and bright alloys staggered 17/20-inches front/rear for an awesome stance.
The Prowler has a nicely insulated soft top and proper side windows that button it up nicely against the elements. But the reason why we get to call this a roadster is because the roof disappears into the trunk and basically leaves no trace it ever existed. So this one looks fantastic when it's open to the world. Another part of this top-down attraction is there's a tidy and loaded interior. It includes power windows, power locks, keyless entry/alarm, power mirrors, cruise control, dual airbags, ABS, a cup holder center console, and an AM/FM/cassette stereo with CD changer. And the cold-bowing air conditioning is essential to making sure you enjoy driving this roadster, even in the summertime. And the driving experience was a nice focus of the engines, too. They made it both comfortable and engaging with supple leather seats, a sport steering wheel on a tilt column, and a slick-shifting Auto-Stick. Plus, we love how the dash is dominated by your gauges in a cool exterior-matching colored panel, and there's even an AutoMeter tach on the steering column.
Not only did 1999 give you a better color selection, but a revised aluminum block 3.5-liter V6 debuted to give you more power. And the way this one fires up and runs with the ease of a modern powerhouse means you'll love adding to the low odometer. The four-speed automatic transmission w/overdrive and power steering make this a fine anytime cruiser. When you want a little more fun, the AutoStick has a manual mode that will really open up the backroads. This lets you take full advantage of the fully independent suspension, well-balanced chassis, and four-wheel power disc brakes.
