This 1990 Chevrolet Silverado 454 SS was the truck that launched a new performance revolution. It gave us the kind of big block bravado we hadn't seen in decades, and that's why the right ones are such coveted classics. So to find a well-kept, low-mileage, and nicely documented example is a terrific way to find a collector's cruiser.
This is a true classic where if your state offers collector/antique registration, this one likely already qualifies. And the radon why you're likely going to take that route is because of the truck's level of preservation. It has averaged under 1,400 miles annually, and the mean black paint shows all the right signs of being the factory application. It continues to have a nice gloss and shine today that loves to show off the well-fitting panels. This level of respect is because it has been treated as the benchmark classic that it is. After all, 1990 was the year that launched the Silverado 454 SS. Later years would offer a few colors, but the inaugural trucks made sure they set the tone correctly with a midnight style. It makes the red details like the Chevy bow tie and the SS graphics look like they are out for blood. The attitude is upgraded further with 20-inch boss alloys, a forward stance, tinted windows, and a soft tonneau over the bed for a more aerodynamic style. It makes for a better driver's classic, but most of these additions could also be swapped/removed if you're looking for something more stock.
It isn't a true SS truck without the Garnet Red interior and the premium cloth bucket seats. It's quite distinctive and still looks good today. In fact, while the mileage is low, the condition of many of the fundamentals will almost have you mistaking elements for new. A center console armrest provides extra storage and a set of cup holders, which is a nice feature that doesn't yet come in many classic collectibles. This SS is loaded with power windows, power locks, a tilt steering column, cruise control, a sliding rear window, and provisions for air conditioning (it will need servicing to blow cold again.) The only upgrade you're likely to spot is the AM/FM/CD stereo with USB input to plug in your phone. The upgraded driving music is just another reason why this true classic is also a true cruiser.
What made these special Silverados earn their intimidating appearance is the fuel-injected 454 cubic-inch big block power under the hood. This comes from the grand muscle car tradition of Chevy grabbing the largest motor they had and shoehorning it into one of the smallest, lightest bodies for exceptional performance. These engines were initially intended to do work but then were installed in an 800-pound lighter pickup... so you know this one has some serious power to spare. The TH400 three-speed automatic transmission and strong 14-bolt rear end are stout components that help deliver reliable performance. This one is also quite capable on the road thanks to a sports car-like ratio on the power steering, power brakes, front discs, newer shock, and modern sport tires afforded by the wheel upgrade.
The sale comes complete with nice paperwork like the original window sticker and the owner's manual packet. This is the muscle truck that's presented with the respected modern classic status it has earned. Call today!!!
